As I was spilling coffee trying to tweet the URL of the LA Times article that was just posted about Twitter’s future Revenue Model I realized I was not only an idiot for dumping 6 bucks worth of french roast on white carpet, but also a complete douche for laughing so much at Twitter the past week while they were surpassing $1bil market capitalization. Turns out, Twitter did have a plan.

In a recent interview with Tribune Newspapers, Twitter’s co-founder Biz Stone gave a peak into the future. While standard services will remain free for general users, businesses and organizations will be able to pay for premium features, such as detailed Analytics and various follower activity reports; key elements for measuring ROI.

Twitter isn’t limiting the good news to only business users. In another move cheered by Tweeple everywhere, the co-founders said they will avoid on-site advertisements for the next year while they focus on these “premium features”.

This business model seems healthy to me. Unlike YouTube, who continues alienating users with slowers speeds and more ads with each passing day.

  1. It’s a good move on their part. With all of that contextual relationship data and conversation data they will be able to predict upcoming trends… compare trends against other sources and see how the world affects twitter conversation and how twitter conversation affects the world… wrote an article talking about a little of that analysis I did on my own if you want the link.

  2. I think it’s a strong move on Twitter’s part. Businesses will be able to determine which efforts are increasing active followers. Do you know if Twitter will visually designate businesses that are using this “premium” version of Twitter? I think that might add trust between users and businesses as well.

  3. Love the blog…people are missing out not using Twitter more often!

  4. I believe Tweet Adder is one of the best Twitter tools, Tweet Attacks is apparently awesome, and I haven’t tested it. But Tweet Adder tops Hummingbird in my books, more features, and easier to manage.
