Twitter is testing a feature that allows you to group the people you follow into “lists”, then make these lists public. Much like Facebook Groups, but with the twist that the lists and posts will be public and search indexable.
Groups/Lists have long been one of the features I have required and most enjoyed while using various twitter applications like TweetDeck. I am glad to see twitter make this move. Many times I’ve wished I could let other peer into these grouped tweet streams so that they could witness how incredibly useful Twitter can be if you’re following the right people.
Soon this will be possible!

By creating “Lists” capabilities, Twitter will likely decrease the overall usage of hashtags and other ingenious ways people have came up with to keep everyone on the same page. Perhaps someday soon Twitter will be more about the “Lists” you follow instead of people?
