Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is the process of companies sharing a percentage of profits with people who generate sales for them.

The Advertiser
Example: CompanyABC sells a product called xysKing for $100.00 and has a profit of $30.00 on every sale. This company pays $12.00 from each sale to the person responsible for sending the customer to their site (the affiliate). This tracking is all done with enterprise level software that allows the affiliate and CompanyABC to login and view detailed sales reporting at anytime.

Affiliate Marketing has become one of the fastest and largest distribution channels for products and services online. By establishing a commission per sale, you can leverage 100s or 1000s of resellers who already have sites related to your product or your service area.

The Affiliate
As an affiliate you have access to many affiliate networks that will provide you with access to 1000′s of different “offers” companies have setup on a pay per sale/lead/action commission. These offers range from insurance quotes to buying wheelchairs online – dating sites, downloadable games and social applications geared towards Facebook.

You’ll be provided with a unique tracking link code that will allow you, the affiliate network and the advertiser to view “actions” or “conversions” on the offer. You will then be credited for each conversion in your account. Most affiliate networks payout earnings monthly.

Next, promoting the offers you’ve selected becomes the highest priority. You’ll need to use a good mixture of search marketing, social marketing and contextual marketing to maximize your earnings. Creating, testing and optimizing batches of ads as many times as possible will now create increasing profit margins.

Even the most successful offers burn out over time. There is really no way around it. The better the offer, the harder you can push it..but after you’ve maxed out every distribution channel you can find for 6 months straight anyone who is going to buy the product or signup for the site has probably already done so. You’ll need to find a new, similar offer to run in these successful channels. Constantly rotating and testing offers is a normal part of an affiliate’s day.

The Affiliate Network
The affiliate network holds everything together. They create relationships with 100s of advertisers and compile lists of commission based offers in one centralized searchable location making it easy for affiliates to find offers right for them. They also manage the payments to affiliates and billing to advertisers. Affiliate networks provide the platform and personnel that make everything possible.

The most important element of any affiliate network is the affiliate manager or advertising representative that you deal with.

  • Affiliate managers deal one on one with groups of affiliates at the network. If you are an affiliate, a good affiliate manager will make a night and day difference for you.
  • Advertising representatives deal directly with the advertiser dealing with the sales and performance aspects. A good Ad Rep will make sure you get good placement and distribution on the network.
